Inflammatory Cytokines and the Risk to Develop Type 2 Diabetes
The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition, Benjamin Franklin Medical Center, Free University Berlin, Berlin, Germany and the Department of Clinical Nutrition, German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke came to this conclusion after a study:

We demonstrated that a specific pattern of cytokines was associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, rather than isolated elevation of the respective cytokines.
